Why San Bernardino Homeowners Choose Kohler Construction
We provide independent Kohler construction repair, installation, and service across San Bernardino, from cast-iron Bellwether tubs to Purist faucets and Riverby sinks, and we also offer Kohler in Fontana. We are not authorized or sponsored by Kohler. What sets our Kohler work apart is that we know how these fixtures actually behave in Inland Empire water and in the aging post-war homes that dominate this city’s housing stock. That means we diagnose the real problem the first time instead of swapping parts and hoping. Call (855) 473-5620 when a Kohler fixture stops doing its job.
Why Trust San Bernardino Contractors for Your Kohler Construction?
Ruben Castillo, our owner, started learning this trade on San Bernardino’s Westside, watching his uncle reroof houses and frame garages on a tight budget. That education taught him something that stuck: the right material installed wrong is still a failure. He later completed construction technology training at San Bernardino Valley College, where load paths and plan reading became second nature. That combination of field instinct and technical discipline is exactly what Kohler fixtures demand.
We’ve installed and serviced Kohler products across San Bernardino kitchens and baths for years, and we bring that same expertise to Kohler in Rialto. We know the ceramic disc valve cartridges in Purist and Artifacts faucets. We know what a Bellwether cast-iron tub does when the subfloor flexes. We know which Kohler toilet fill valves clog first in hard water and which ones hold up. That brand-specific knowledge means we don’t guess. We diagnose by symptom, by model, and by the water chemistry coming out of your pipes. And because we’re a full-service general contractor, not a single-fixture specialist, we catch the structural and plumbing issues around the Kohler fixture that a parts-swapper misses.

Common Kohler Construction Problems We Fix in San Bernardino
- Stiff or dripping Purist and Artifacts faucet handles. San Bernardino’s water is hard. The calcium and mineral scale works its way into the ceramic disc cartridge, which is the precision component inside the faucet valve. Over time, the discs grind against scale instead of seating cleanly. The handle gets stiff or starts dripping even when closed. The fix is a genuine Kohler OEM cartridge replacement, not a handle tighten.
- Chipped or rusting Bellwether cast-iron tubs. The Bellwether is a workhorse alcove tub, but cast iron is unforgiving when the floor moves. San Bernardino’s aging tract homes often have subfloors that have settled or softened, especially around the numbered streets and older downtown neighborhoods. A chipped enamel surface is one symptom. A worse one is an apron rusting from trapped moisture behind failing greenboard. When we see this, the question is never just the chip. It’s what’s behind the tub.
- Weak or cycling Memoirs and Wellworth toilets. Mineral-clogged fill valves and worn flappers are the usual culprits. The fill valve restricts, the tank refills slowly, and the flush gets weaker. Often it’s the same hard-water scale that attacks faucet cartridges. A genuine Kohler fill valve, set to the right water level for the model, usually restores the original flush performance.
- Sagging or leaking undermount Riverby and Whitehaven sinks. These enameled cast-iron and stainless sinks are heavy. When the undermount brackets under a quartz counter loosen, or the sealant bead fails, the sink starts to sag or pull away from the counter. Water gets in, and eventually the sink drops. This is a bracket and sealant issue, almost never a sink defect. Re-bracketing and resealing with the right mechanical fasteners and a proper silicone or polyurethane seal fixes it.
- Finish clouding and spotting on Kohler faucets and shower trim. Inland Empire water leaves mineral film on brushed nickel, polished chrome, and even Kohler’s Vibrant finishes. Daily hard water plus intense San Bernardino sun through a bathroom window accelerates it. We recommend the right undermount sink bracket maintenance, valve cartridge replacement, and specific descaling practices that don’t scratch the finish.
Kohler Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
We use genuine Kohler OEM cartridges, fill valves, and trim where the finish and warranty depend on it. Kohler’s ceramic disc cartridges are engineered to tight tolerances. A cheap aftermarket cartridge in a Purist faucet can change the handle feel and wear the seats unevenly. That’s a false economy. But on supply lines, mounting hardware, and some interior tank components, quality aftermarket parts often hold up as well or better for the money, and we’ll tell you where the savings make sense.
On Kohler faucets and toilets, honest Kohler repair in Bloomington almost always beats replacement. A $40 cartridge or a $25 fill valve restores the fixture to factory performance in under an hour. On chipped cast-iron tubs, the decision gets more complex. Reglazing costs less, but if the chip is through to bare metal or the tub’s mounting is compromised, we weigh a tub-to-shower conversion instead. The subfloor condition and the enclosure waterproofing determine which way the decision goes. Call (855) 473-5620 and we’ll walk you through what you’re actually facing.
Our Kohler Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis by model and symptom. We identify the specific Kohler model line, note what it’s doing, and check for the usual San Bernardino culprits: hard water scale, subfloor movement, failing brackets, or aging sealant. We don’t guess.
- 2
Repair or installation with the right parts. For faucets and toilets, we replace with OEM Kohler cartridges, valves, and trim. For tubs and sinks, we correct the substrate or mounting issue first, then install the fixture. A new Kohler fixture on a bad subfloor is just a future call-back.
- 3
Pressure and leak testing. We run the fixture through its full range: hot and cold, full open to full closed, flush cycles, drain flow. We check for drips at every connection and under the sink or tub deck.
- 4
Warranty-safe documentation. We verify that the work matches Kohler’s installation requirements and that no modification voids the fixture’s warranty. If we need to flag a follow-up issue, we tell you before we leave, not after.

FAQs – Kohler Construction Service in San Bernardino
Is San Bernardino Contractors authorized by Kohler?
No. We are an independent Kohler installation and service provider and are not authorized, sponsored, or endorsed by Kohler. What we bring is hands-on experience with Kohler products in San Bernardino homes, including the specific ways hard water, aging subfloors, and cast-iron fixtures interact.
Can you replace a Kohler ceramic disc cartridge in a Purist faucet without replacing the whole faucet?
Yes. The Purist cartridge is replaceable as a standalone part, and in most cases the faucet body is perfectly fine. The failure is almost always mineral scale from San Bernardino’s hard water grinding against the ceramic discs. We replace the cartridge with a genuine Kohler OEM unit, which restores the original handle feel and stops the drip. Call (855) 473-5620 for an exact quote.
My Kohler Bellwether tub is chipped – should I reglaze it or convert to a walk-in shower?
It depends on what’s behind the chip. If the enamel chip is small and the tub and subfloor are solid, reglazing can buy you years. If the cast iron is rusting, the apron has been trapping moisture, or the subfloor has flexed, a tub-to-shower conversion is usually the better long-term decision. We pull the tub, correct the framing and subfloor, and set a Kohler walk-in shower pan with new valve and trim. We’ll tell you which route makes sense after we look at it.
Is my Kohler toilet’s weak flush a fill valve problem or the toilet itself?
Usually the fill valve. Hard water mineral deposits restrict water flow through the valve, so the tank refills slowly and the flush loses force. A worn flapper compounds the issue by letting water leak between flushes. In our experience, replacing the fill valve and flapper with Kohler OEM parts fixes weak flush complaints on Memoirs and Wellworth models in the large majority of cases. Call us before you replace the toilet.
Why is my undermount Kohler Riverby sink sagging under a quartz counter?
The sink isn’t failing. The undermount brackets are. Cast-iron Riverby sinks are heavy, and if the mechanical brackets loosen or the sealant bond breaks, the sink begins to pull down from the counter. The correct fix is to remove the sink, inspect the counter opening, re-bracket with proper hardware, and reseal with a true marine-grade adhesive. We did exactly this on a Del Rosa Avenue job where the original brackets had let go under a quartz counter, leaving the sink sitting a quarter inch low. It sat flush again after re-bracketing.
Does San Bernardino’s water cause Kohler faucet and shower trim problems?
Yes, and it’s the most common Kohler service issue we see in San Bernardino. The city’s semi-arid climate and hard groundwater leave calcium and mineral film on every wetted surface. Ceramic disc cartridges in Purist and Artifacts faucets stiffen as scale builds. Shower trim gets cloudy. The right response is regular descaling of the trim and prompt cartridge replacement when handles get stiff. Waiting too long turns a $40 oil cartridge into a worn valve body. Call (855) 473-5620 and we’ll get you sorted.
