Therma-Tru Construction in Stanford, CA | San Bernardino Contractors

We provide independent Therma-Tru entry, patio, and sidelite service across Stanford, from fiberglass slab replacements to weatherseal and sill-pan rebuilds on campus-adjacent buildings. What makes our Therma-Tru work different here is simple: almost every project inside ZIP 94305 has to clear Stanford University’s own design review and seismic requirements before a single screw gets pulled. That jurisdiction layer doesn’t exist in Palo Alto Therma-Tru service or Menlo Park, and it changes how we frame, flash, and hang these doors. Call (855) 473-5620 for a free estimate.

Why Stanford Residents Choose Us for Therma-Tru Service

Ruben Castillo runs our crew, and he grew up learning what happens when a door opening isn’t plumb or a sill pan gets skipped entirely. His uncle framed garages and reroofed houses on a tight budget, and that hands-on education stuck. Ruben took construction technology at San Bernardino Valley College and has spent the better part of two decades working through the Inland Empire and on complex remodels, including jobs where a 1920s door opening had shifted enough to bind a brand-new slab. We bring that same field troubleshooting to every Therma-Tru door in Stanford, whether it’s a Fiber-Classic hung in a mid-century faculty house or a Smooth-Star entry on a modern infill residence.

We’re not factory-authorized for Therma-Tru, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we are is an independent contractor that has corrected, refitted, and installed these door systems long enough to know how the slabs and frames behave once they’re actually hung in old masonry or new wall assemblies. When you call us, you get a crew that speaks the product line fluently and knows Stanford’s specific approval process. One contractor, every phase. You pick the brand, we handle the build.

Common Therma-Tru Construction Problems We Solve in Stanford

  • Weathered sweeps and weatherstrip on aging faculty housing. Original mid-century and tract-era Therma-Tru entries on Stanford faculty and staff homes are now 20 to 40 years old. The slab itself is often fine, but the sweep and weatherstrip seals have gone flat, letting drafts and dust push through. We replace those seals with OEM Therma-Tru parts and get the door closing tight again without swapping the slab.
  • Sun-chalked fiberglass finishes and rotted wood jambs. South- and west-facing entries take direct Mediterranean dry-season sun, which chalks the finish on Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star slabs and dries out the wood frame components until they crack. We check finish integrity and jamb condition during every service call because what looks like a cosmetic issue is usually rot waiting underneath.
  • Binding at the strike side from out-of-square historic openings. The older masonry and stucco openings around the Main Quad and Old Campus are rarely square anymore. A Therma-Tru door that bound at the strike plate and dragged its sweep across the threshold is usually a rough-opening problem, not a hinge problem. We reframe or shim the opening rather than forcing the door to fit.
  • Failing sill pans and thresholds during storm season. Winter rain on campus-edge projects exposes weak or missing sill pans fast. Water wicks into the subfloor and the first sign is a leaking sweep. We set new sill pans with proper flashing and re-flash against the original stucco plane so rainwater sheds instead of pooling at the threshold.
  • Discontinued hardware and multipoint lock failures on Pulse patio doors. Therma-Tru Pulse patio doors see heavy use in Stanford homes with indoor-outdoor living spaces. Multipoint lock strips wear out, and discontinued OEM parts can be hard to source. We stock what’s available locally and use quality aftermarket lock and sweep kits only when OEM hardware is no longer on the market.

Therma-Tru Service in Stanford: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Door

Stanford sits inside a private university enclave where nearly every project touches the University’s own land-use authority, design review, and seismic standards rather than ordinary city permitting. A Therma-Tru entry or sidelite replacement on a campus-area building has to clear Stanford’s design and seismic review before we can pull a slab. That’s a layer that does not exist in neighboring Palo Alto or Therma-Tru service in West Menlo Park, and it directly shapes how we do the work. We recently replaced a bind-prone Fiber-Classic entry on a 1920s stucco building near the Main Quad, where the historic masonry opening had shifted out of square and the old Therma-Tru slab was catching the strike plate every time the door closed. Our tech reframed and re-shimmed the rough opening, set a fresh sill pan with proper flashing, and re-flashed against the original stucco plane before hanging a new slab with OEM hardware. The result was a door that latches cleanly and sheds winter rain instead of wicking it into the threshold. If it’s not built right the first time, you’re just paying for it twice.

Therma-Tru Models & Products We Service in Stanford

We work on the full residential Therma-Tru lineup: Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star, Classic-Craft, and the Pulse patio door series. Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star are the most common slabs we see in Stanford, especially on mid-century faculty housing and 1980s infill homes. Classic-Craft shows up in higher-end residences and campus-adjacent renovations where the owner wants a wood-grain look without the rot. Pulse patio doors cross our service bench often, particularly for lock strip and roller failures. We use OEM Therma-Tru hardware, sills, and weatherstripping where the original opening is sound enough to keep, and quality aftermarket multipoint lock and sweep kits only when OEM parts are unavailable. On doors older than about 20 years in Stanford’s climate, we honestly weigh repair against replacement and tell the owner when a new slab is the smarter spend. See our Therma-Tru sales & service page for the full scope of what we handle.

Therma-Tru Service Pricing in Stanford

What drives cost is the condition of the rough opening, the age of the door, and whether Stanford’s design review layer adds time before we can start. A straight forward sweep and weatherstrip replacement lands at the low end, while a full slab replacement on an out-of-square historic opening with new sill pan and flashing runs higher. Here are the line-item ranges we work within for the broader scope of work that often accompanies a Therma-Tru door replacement:

Service Price Range
Bathroom Remodel $9,000 – $28,000
Walk-In Shower Installation $4,500 – $12,000
Window Replacement $4,500 – $15,000

Every estimate is free and includes a written line-item quote before we touch anything. Call (855) 473-5620 to schedule yours.
